Free Yourself From a Funk - 3 Things You Can Do To Get Yourself Out of a Rut

Have you ever been in a funk? A funk could mean a few things - This could be a state of emotionless feelings or a state of overemotion. It could mean a feeling of chronic stress or a constant overwhelmed emotion or depressive state. Think about that phrase, “carrying too much on your shoulders.” That’s also a great way to describe what being in a funk means. Have you ever been at the end of the school year and trying relentlessly to get yourself to study and be productive, but you feel like you just can’t? You would also call that a funk. Maybe there was a time in your life when you felt low energized for a while, but didn’t necessarily have a reason to feel this. This could also be describing a funk. It can resemble a feeling of burnout as much as it can resemble overwhelmedness. Don’t fret if you feel as though you are in a bit of a rut. These small tips can help you to get out of one and start feeling more like yourself.

Move Your Body

Exercising is an amazing way to help pull yourself up. There are many forms of exercising that can be fun - it doesn’t have to be too crazy. Even going on a walk can boost your energy levels. You could also try something different such as yoga, pilates or zumba classes. If you don’t want to spend money, you can do online workout videos. Moving your body can help you get out of your head and into your body. Being active can boost endorphins and make you feel better. You may find yourself feeling more fueled or centered after a workout.

Be Kind to Yourself

When you feel less like yourself or in an off state of mind, don’t forget that life is full of highs and lows, and don’t beat yourself up. Instead of criticizing yourself, give yourself grace and allow yourself to feel what you need to feel. Journaling can help you realize thoughts or emotions you didn’t even know were there. Talking to others can also help you to understand everything more clearly. Self care can also help you calm your mind and give yourself all the love you deserve. Meditating, putting on a face mask, lighting a candle and running a bath or doing something you love are all great examples of self care. This can help you to relax, unwind and center your mind.

Surround Yourself with People You Love

Have you ever heard the phrase “surround yourself with people who feel like sunshine?” This phrase is so important for your mental health and self esteem. The people you surround yourself with really do make an impact on your life. The people you choose to spend time with can affect your thoughts, emotions and your actions. You want to make sure they do this in a beneficial way and they don’t bring you down. It’s also very important to surround yourself with people who lift you up and encourage you. If you're always around people who criticize you, encourage you to participate in bad behaviors or think poorly of you, this could have a huge negative impact on your day-to-day thoughts, even if it’s subconscious.

Remind yourself that there’s so much good coming your way, and you’ve made it through every bad day you’ve ever had so far. You can do this! Remind yourself that you got this, do things you love and are passionate about and spend time with people who give you all the love you deserve.
